Bearcat Theatre Company and COVID-19 What does it mean for us?
Being that we are at a school; and all of our students are together constantly throughout the day; we wanted to find a way for the arts to return to their life for a bit of normalcy in a world that is anything but normal. When Mr. Hanaway sat down and asked himself; how can we do theatre; and get people the art they need; and do it safely; he wasn't sure where to begin. Radio plays; that was his answer after hours on the web. He didn't want to do a zoom show about quarantine or COVID; because some of the reason we do art is to escape reality; and people need that today more than ever. What is great about our radio play model is that our actors are socially distanced (even more than 6 feet) and there are no costume changes or blocking because they are "radio stars" who stand at a microphone and give their performance through voice; accents; and inflection. We are going to present our show digitally; so no audiences will enter our theatre for our production; there by lessening our chance of transmission. Our students will be masked for the entire rehearsal process until recording day; and even then they will only be unmasked when performing their part; facing forward and not directly to anyone. We will be pre-recording our production and streaming it virtually; the reason for recording versus live streaming; is that we are lessening the amount of time the students are exposed to each other beyond what they normally are, and by eliminating a weekend of performance we are eliminating unnecessary contact. This fall show radio play option is one we are so excited about because it is a challenge none of us have done before; and we know you will be sure to enjoy it from the comfort of your own home. Streaming and ticketing information will be available in the next couple weeks. Thank you endlessly for your support.
